Description
In this book we can hear the voice of a great spiritual teacher – Saint Ephraim the Syrian (ca. 306-373). He lived during the time of the undivided church and belongs to our common Christian heritage. For Ephraim, both the world and scripture are witnesses to the great divine mystery. This book teaches us to see with Ephraim’s eyes, to discover images and symbols that lead to God. Ephraim is a representative of early non-Western Christianity, and he articulates his theology in an appealing poetic form. Despite a distance of 1700 years, he has much to tell us today – about reading and interpreting the Bible, about female and male, about the interplay of nature, about the role of faith and reason in our relationship with God and creation.
The original is written by Sebastian Brock, professor emeritus at Oxford and one of the world’s foremost connoisseurs of Syrian literature.
